Simple rockets are built and used to transport cargo by applying the concept of pressure.

This lesson demonstrates the basic principles of rocketry, by applying the concept of pressure and Newton’s third law of motion.

LIST OF MATERIALS

  1. Balloons (long, skinny balloon, not round)
  2. Straws
  3. String
  4. Permanent marker
  5. Cargo (paper clips, bottle caps, candy, etc.)
  6. Cereal boxes, construction paper, or any other
    material to make lightweight cargo containers
  7. Tape, glue, scissors, and any other materials
    needed for construction

A simple rocket made with a balloon will be propelled down a string because of pressure and Newton’s third law of motion.
